A big cheer for Amanda-Jane Balfour who recently completed the three national peaks in 24 hours, raising around £300 for ACEF!
Amanda admits “ it was probably one of the hardest, most challenging and enduring fitness events I have ever participated in, however we had a great team, had a really good laugh and have some wonderful memories to keep forever”.
The first climb to Ben Nevis started at 0830 am and despite the “pea soup” mist they were back at the bus for two bacon rolls less than 5 hours later. Scafell Pike was a bigger challenge as the gales and rain were so bad they had to stay down on all fours and discovered that all clothing marked as ‘waterproof’ only remains so for a limited time! By 2354 hrs they were back at Base warming up and eating Porridge
Early next morning found them at a very wet and windy Pen-y-Pass, the base of Snowdon. They then endured an hour and 40 mins of intense heavy rain and gales at around 60 mph, leaving Amanda and her friend, Michelle, clinging onto each other and rocks to stay upright and stop falling over the side.
So wind bitten and absolutely drenched the team were in high spirits as they were told they had officially completed the Three Peaks Challenge in 22 hours and 35 mins! Well Done indeed.
