When we started working with Brainhouse Academy the only extra curricular activity that existed was kicking a ball made of plastic bags around the small playground – smaller that a 5-a-side football pitch. Since then we have introduced all sorts of activities beyond the classroom and inspired a whole new approach to learning through doing. One of the great successes has been the take up of sport for all students – we now have students taking part for the first time in Athletics competitions and qualifying to represent the District in county and national competitions. A girls football and volleyball team have been formed and the girls have won through to sub-county games level.
The Headmaster informs us that the students are loving being involved in sport and the teachers feel they have a duty to “raise giants as far as sports is concerned”. An amazing change to three years ago, when sport featured nowhere in the approach to learning.
To help meet this aspiration they need some vital coaching materials to help get the best out of the students. They are looking for coaching manuals, footballs and volleyballs, second hand football kit, athletics and sports shoes, cones and other coaching equipment.
If you belong to a sports club and have such equipment we would love to hear from you. It is so exciting and rewarding to hear the passion from Brainhouse staff about what they are seeking to do.
