Our Volunteers and Supporters

All supporters of Akamba Children’s Education Fund give their time and skills voluntarily and we would like to thank them hugely as without them there would be no charity. We draw our volunteers from a wide range of experiences and they help with marketing, financial management most importantly ideas generation and implementing some of our exciting projects.

The work of ACEF has been acknowledged formally when one of our key Trustees, Liz Formby, was recognised in the New Years Honours and was awarded the National Civil Service Volunteering Award at Buckingham Palace in Oct 2015. On both occasions Prince William and the Queen were very interested to hear of our work and have asked us to keep them informed of the progress we are making. See our News Item on the MBE presentation at the Palace.

Chris Canaan and Rustie Lee at AkambaAkamba Garden Centre and its Directors, Chris and Kel, have been an integral part of the charity since it’s inception, particularly with building the close and trusting link with Brainhouse Academy.

In 2011 Rustie Lee became a Patron of ACEF. Rustie is well known for her huge smile and joyful personality. As a Caribbean chef and TV personality Rustie has great presence with people, many contacts and is able to make the donation buckets rattle!!

Rustie was very involved with our Family Fun Day and gave a real show with her laughter, banter and cookery demonstrations. She signed autographs tirelessly and many visitors went away much happier! Come along to one of our fundraising activities and you may well get an opportunity to spot her cheery face.

Rustie also entered the TV quiz show “Pointless” in Dec 2013, and, with her partner Anne Diamond, managed to successfully win the charity jackpot which was donated to ACEF. See a clip of her contagious laugh here!
