At the start of the year Julie Wooldridge and her husband Jerry decided that they wanted to support the maintenance of the solar panels that have made such a difference to the lives of the students at Brainhouse Academy. So she invested in Solar Pig who came out every time friends or family came to visit and instead of bringing along a bottle of wine or chocolates, visitors where encouraged to put the money they would have spent into Solar Pig.
Julie and Jerry still provide the drinks and Solar Pig is getting very full. Now dressed in her summer party outfit, she has so far collected £220 plus gift aid at 25% since the start of the year.
That amount would have been well on the way to paying the ongoing solar panel upkeep. However, in May we received the bad news that one of the solar panels had sustained significant damage and needs to be repaired or replaced. So Julie and Jerry are redoubling their efforts with more visitors who can light up the lives of children at Brainhouse.
Why don’t you try a similar sort of project? Windsor High School and Sixth Form have a “Sunshine Pot” into which they are gathering together any left over holiday currencies. With a staff of over 200, just a few Euro or Dollars each could lead to a considerable contribution!
